Public Holidays in North America

Festivals today have long since carried on religious or historical traditions and celebrate anything from the arts to food, beer, music, science, theatre, cartoons, literature, winter or summer, camels, wife carrying or cheese rolling. Some are controversial, weird, wonderful or downright entertaining like camel wrestling or wild goat racing. They are often a source of entertainment and education and bring you into contact with colorful cultures and locations. There are festivals as diverse as dog sledge racing in Greenland, conch cracking in Bahamas and day of the dead in Mexico.

Festivals like the Independence Day on 4 July when there is the Presidential address and rejoicing by barbecues, picnics and family gatherings, Thanksgiving on 4th Thursday of every November, St. Patrick’s Day and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. day are celebrated widely by US citizens all over North America

Summer time is time for Jazz festivals in many places in North America particularly in New Orleans and Montreal where there are film festivals and beer festivals. There are also festivals which have feast of rodeo, concerts, chuck wagon races, agricultural competitions, pancake breakfasts and many other events that transform North America into a cowboy heaven.
